  • Marshall's landmark cases were Marbury v. Madison, Fletcher v. Peck, Martin v. Hunter's Lease, Dartmouth College v. Woodward, McCulloch v. Maryland, Cohens v. Virginia, Gibbons v. Ogden
  • He is known for expanding judiciary powers, establishing the system of judicial review, establishing the federal governments broad control of interstate commerce, and that the Supreme Court could overturn previous rulings in lower courts
Samuel Slater
  • A British native who came to America just before the War of 1812
  • He memorized the way to build cotton-spinning machines
  • With this knowledge he started the first U.S. factory, this led to the rise of more factories and industrialism
  • Slater's factory and other factories thrived in New England because most of the other industries were declining, there were tariffs that benefited the factories, and the embargo during the War of 1812
Stephen Decatur
  • An American Naval Officer
  • Fought in the Quasi-War, The Barbary Wars, and The War of 1812
  • Served as Court Marshal in the handling of the Chesapeake-Leopold affair
  • He dueled the captain that he disbarred a few years later and was killed
Andrew Jackson
  • Was the seventh President of the United States
  • Was a war hero in the War of 1812 with his victory in New Orleans
  • Forced the removal of Native Americans during his presidency
  • Extended the Spoils System

Eli Whitney
  • Invented the Cotton Gin
  • Came up with the idea of interchangeable parts
  • Interchangeable parts became the basis for mass production
Robert Fulton
