The Era of Good Feelings was marked by a spirit of nationalism, optimism, and goodwill during the Monroe years. As a result of the Federalists disappearing and Monroe's presidency, Republicans dominated the North, South, and West. Although this time was marked by a great sense of nationalism in America, there were still tense debates pertaining to the national bank, internal improvements, and public land sales in politics. This false sense of unity in the Republican party became apparent when the Republican party eventually split in two. The Era of Good Feelings lasted between 1816 and the Panic of 1819.
